What data we collect

• Account information, such as your email address and authentication identifiers;
• Learning progress and settings;
• Vocabulary and learning content you save;
• Text or other content submitted for translation or generation;
• YouTube URLs and subtitle-related data when you use those features;
• Technical information used to protect the service, such as IP addresses for rate limiting of public demo access.

How we use data

Information is used to provide application features: authentication, account operation, progress synchronization, content personalization, and AI-powered functionality. We may use third-party service providers to operate the Service. We do not sell your personal data.

Legal bases for processing

We process personal data that is necessary to provide LangTrainer on the basis of Article 6(1)(b) GDPR (performance of a contract). This includes account creation and authentication, operating your account, storing learning progress, vocabulary and settings, translations and AI-generated learning materials you request, subtitle processing you request, and account-related messages such as activation and password reset emails.

We also process limited technical information, such as IP addresses used to rate-limit public demo access, and operational logs, on the basis of Article 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interests). Our legitimate interests are maintaining the security, reliability and proper operation of LangTrainer.

Third-party services

When you choose “Continue with Google”, Google processes your authentication. We use an email delivery provider to send account activation, password reset, and other necessary service messages. If you add a YouTube video, we retrieve publicly available video and subtitle information from YouTube to provide that feature. AI service providers are described below. These providers process information according to their applicable agreements and privacy terms.

AI-powered features

LangTrainer uses third-party artificial intelligence services, such as OpenAI, to provide some features, including generation of learning materials, translations, and processing of subtitles. When you use these features, the text or other content required to perform the request may be sent to an AI service provider for processing. We only send information reasonably necessary to provide the requested functionality. Third-party providers process this information according to their applicable agreements and privacy terms. LangTrainer does not sell your personal data.

International data transfers

Some service providers may process personal data outside the European Economic Area. Where GDPR requires safeguards for such transfers, the provider or LangTrainer relies on an applicable adequacy decision or appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses. How long we keep data

We retain account and learning data while your account remains active. You can delete your account in the app or request deletion as described on the Delete your account page, or by emailing [email protected]. When an account is deleted, the account record and linked personal data — including progress, settings, vocabulary links, saved texts, and authentication tokens — are removed. Content that has become shared learning material, such as dictionary entries or videos no longer linked to the account, may remain. To avoid repeating the same translation requests, we may cache the resulting translation of submitted text for up to six months. This cache is not linked to your account, but the cached translation may still contain personal data if it was present in the submitted text. Application logs may include identifiers such as email addresses; no specific log retention period is currently defined.

Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or receive a copy of your personal data, and to object to processing based on legitimate interests. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the data protection supervisory authority in the EU/EEA country where you live, work, or where you believe an infringement has occurred.

Automated decision-making

LangTrainer does not use automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects on users.

Security

The connection to the application uses HTTPS. Passwords are stored in hashed form. Access to stored data is limited to what is needed to operate the Service. Authorized third-party service providers may process certain information as described above in order to provide their services; they do not have unrestricted access to the LangTrainer database.
